Kasol Travel Guide
Wooden riverside cafes, floor cushions by the window, neon lights and psytrance, with Grahan, Tosh and Kheerganga up the valley. From three trips to the Parvati.
Follow the Parvati up the valley
Start in Kasol, ride up to Grahan, stay a night in Tosh, then walk to Kheerganga. Each stop climbs a little higher.
Kasol market and the Parvati
A small, easy-to-walk market of cafes, shops and guesthouses. Walk down to the river in the evening, when the valley goes quiet.
My favourite place in Kasol. Better even than Spiti.
Grahan village
Grahan is mesmerising, like a fairy tale, and the best thing in Kasol. It is an up-and-down trip, so there is no stay in Grahan.
- Walk past Kasol market and cross the wooden bridge.
- Take a Gypsy 4x4 jeep, about ₹300–600 per person, one way. It's a must-do, the best thing you can do here.
- On the way you pass a very long, big waterfall. It's the best sight of the trip.
- After that, climb up the mountain through lush green forest to Grahan.
Tosh village
Tosh sits above Barshaini dam at the end of the road up the valley. Unlike Grahan, you can stay the night here in a village homestay.
Kheerganga trek
A forest trail with waterfalls along the way. There are no homestays at the top, so stay in the tents there or bring your own. Carry your own food, as there are not many shops or cafes on the trek.
- Take a cab from Kasol, about ₹1,000. It drops you before Barshaini.
- Walk to Barshaini dam. It's mesmerising, a moment to take a breath.
- From the dam, a small path goes left to a big bridge. It can feel scary.
- Cross the bridge to reach the start of the Kheerganga trek.

Kasol after dark
Three cafes for three moods: a slow afternoon, a party night and a proper coffee.
One of the cafes to try in Kasol for a meal and a long, slow afternoon.
The party spot, with music and a fire show in the evening.
Off Limits Coffee, for a proper cup of coffee in the valley.
Keep the Parvati clean
On my visits I have seen plastic in the Parvati river near Grahan, and more crowds, roads and hotels every year. Carry your waste back down with you, refill a bottle instead of buying new ones, and leave the trails as you found them.
Where to go next
Every guide on Fremza is written from the trail. Pick your next valley.
